Sand Mandala Event in BC

Tsengdok Monastery holds a small scale Sand Mandala event in BC a few times a year to promote Tibetan art.  A Sand Mandala Event includes a Sand Mandala creation, Chanting,  and Butter Sculpture.  Sopa Gyamtso is the key artist in this event.

Sopa Gyamtso was born in 1973 in Amdo Ngawa, Tibet. His parents passed away when he was small.  From early childhood, he had a great wish to become a monk and enrolled himself at a monastery in Eastern Tibet. He arrived in India in 1996 and enrolled in Drepung Gomang Monastery in 1997.

Sopa is an expert in Chanting, Sand Mandala and Butter Sculpture.  He traveled to the US with Drepung Gomang  Monastery's 2003-2004 tour group as a Chant master, and he has also been sent twice on behalf of the Monastery to Japan as a Chant master and to create Sand Mandalas.  He has a lot of experience performing the sacred rituals connected to Monastic prayers and blessings.
