Tsengdok Monastery Association and the Tibetan Cultural Society of B.C will once again be cooperating to present the 2nd Annual Tibet Fest of Vancouver. The venue remains the same as the 2010 event, the Floral Hall of Vandusen Gardens and is slated for August 27th from 11 AM to 7 PM.
Over a thousand people attended this event last year. It was the tremendous generosity of sponsors, volunteers and people from all walks of life who combined to make the 2010 event a huge success that enabled us to raise just under $19,000; all of which was sent for the Jyekundo/Yushu earthquake relief efforts.

All proceeds from the upcoming Tibet Fest will be earmarked for the recently announced Canadian Government Initiative to allow 1000 Tibetans from Arunachal Pradesh to immigrate to Canada. This was an initiative that was first raised by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in his 2007 meeting with Prime Minister Harper. The Honorable Mr. Jason Kenney, Minister of Immigration and Citizenship, announced the implementation of this initiative December 2010. Also, in keeping with the vision and compassion of His Holiness a portion of the proceeds from this festival will be donated for the Japanese Tsunami relief work.

His Holiness had a very specific reason when he requested that all the potential immigrants under this program be chosen from the 4 Tibetan refugee camps in the north eastern Indian province of Arunachal Pradesh. The remoteness and inaccessibility of the region is matched only by the very dire conditions that most of the inhabitants of these camps endure. There are many challenges associated with such an ambitious project that need to be surmounted and the money raised here will certainly help. It is indeed heartening to finally be able to see one of His Holiness’ wishes come to fruition.
